H&M is interested in supporting the capacity of Indigenous youth businesses and social enterprises. Specifically with successes, challenges, sustainability, and how they can do better.
H&M Canada approached Indigenous Youth Roots (IYR) towards the end of 2022 as a part of the work they are doing to explore what meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities looks like. During initial meetings, both sides discussed their priorities and H&M Canada talked passionately about a program that their US division ran which empowered Black entrepreneurs through funding, training, and opportunities to showcase their businesses in H&M platforms. There was a lot of alignment in the way that H&M and IYR wanted to build capacity and resources for Indigenous youth to build businesses and social enterprises. We decided to run a granting stream that would be funded by H&M and mobilize funding to Indigenous youth. IYR and H&M Canada would like to eventually grow the partnership as well to include training and programming opportunities for entrepreneurship grantees to help them build and scale their initiatives. This first year of the partnership is a test year, potentially leading into a multi-year partnership if it goes well.
