The Marginalized Majority will be delivering a two hour knowledge sharing session on Decolonizing the Non-Profit Structure. Using concepts like care culture and resourced humans to dismantle colonial thinking and ways of being in a workspaces and nonprofits especially, to create emotionally safe environments that foster trust and healing.

 

Amuna Ali (She/Her) Is a Somali-Yemeni-Emirati, Black & Queer rights activist. Passionate about social justice and public service, Amuna founded the Black Arabs Collective, a project of personal dedication to the experience of the Black community in the Arab world. A platform created to combat to the socialized anti-Blackness, as well as create a system of counter-education against the cultural rhetoric and persistent racism in the Southwest Asia North Africa.

She is now the Associate Executive Director of the Marginalized Majority, a community-led registered Non-profit leading intersectional education and training programs that focus on Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging tailored for marginalized Global South 2SLGBTQIA+.

 

Jad Jaber (They/Them), Ph.D., a post-Doctorate researcher, is the Founder of Marginalized Majority; A Non-Profit community-focused organization implementing programs focused on the individual and community health and healing of 2SLGBTQIA+ equity-deserving groups. The organization has serviced nearly 9000 individuals since the pandemic and has partnered up with the biggest Canadian organizations, including a yearly in-person weekly program at the 519.

Jad has created and lead the equity, diversity and inclusion strategy and programs for the non-profit since its founding. Also a Board Director on Toronto’s Pride for 3 years, Jad has worked as a consultant within the sensitive spaces of EDI, Corporate strategy, academia, research and program management and development.

Jad is a published, peer-reviewed author of multiple books and articles including “Queer Arab Language” and has worked internationally in Europe and the SWANA region with Save the Children, The World Bank as well as other international funding and human rights organizations.
