Purpose of Position  

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Manager of Development is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading the day to day activities of the department in the area of grants and fundraising. The Manager of Development will lead our revenue generating activities, which include donations, corporate sponsorships, business development programs, and other fundraising initiatives. This roles key focus is acquiring sustainable funding for the organization to be able to achieve our ongoing vision of amplifying and empowering Indigenous youth voices.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Grant and Fundraising Management:

  • Oversee and collaborate in writing grants and funding proposals for both IYR programs and core support.
  • Support the implementation of a strategic multi-year fundraising campaign.
  • Lead the development and implementation of routine tasks for the department to achieve departmental goals and objectives efficiently.
  • Oversee donor tracking database management tools for the organization with clear visibility and communication throughout the organization.
  • Develop and lead donor stewardship practices for the organization and its programs.
  • Guide the development of communication materials to engage and inform potential donors, partners, and sponsors about initiatives and opportunities.
  • Using evidence supported approaches and staying up to date with new trends and methods, continue to shape and evolve IYR’s approach to revenue generating activities.
  • Cultivate, nurture, and manage relationships with existing and potential donors, funders, and partners.
  • Lead donor recognition efforts.

Evaluation and Control:

  • Produce reports for organizational leadership including project management reports, program progress reports, board reports, staff performance review, etc.
  • Monitor budgets and expenditures
  • Maintain adequate records of all financial expenditures, acquisitions, stipends, expenses, etc to collaborate with Finance for reconciliation and regulatory compliance.
  • Determine effectiveness of programs, initiatives, and activities to ensure efficient completion of tasks or continued evolution of existing approach to better serve our vision and values

Leadership:

  • Manage day-to-day operations of area of responsibility by planning, developing and implementing activities and tactics
  • Assist in onboarding new employees, providing guidance, training, and direction to ensure their success and integration within the team.
  • Regularly assess and recommend adjustments to the organization’s/department’s procedures and policies to ensure the organization stays current and relevant in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Lead and support your team in achieving departmental goals, completing assigned tasks, and developing innovative ideas for future engagements.
  • Hold accountability for team performance, goal achievement, and organizational alignment
  • Supervise direct reports, including providing direction, advocacy, guidance, coaching, training, performance management.

Community Engagement: 

  • Uphold and promote the organization’s cultural values and guiding principles in all workplace practices.
  • Engage with the Indigenous community and support initiatives that strengthen relationships and collaboration.

Health, Safety, and Wellness: 

  • All employees are required to carry out their duties in a manner that does not adversely affect their own health and safety and that of others by reporting all
    potential hazards; and all incidents and injuries; as well as co-operating with any measures introduced in the workplace to improve OH&S.

Other:   

  • Maintain high ethical standards and demonstrate integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness in all endeavours and communications.
  • Support and participate in all IYR staff, department, and team meetings.
  • Participate in external and internal committees, working groups, or projects as required.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 2 years’ experience in fundraising, granting, development, or other non-profit or charitable revenue generation
  • 2 years’ experience in partner/vendor management
  • Knowledge of the Canadian funding landscape an asset
  • Strong networking and stakeholder engagement skills an asset
  • Strong administrative experience, with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a high attention to detail.

Compensation

  • Salary: $67,957 – $79,500
  • Health benefits: will begin following a 3-month probationary period
  • Other: GRRSP employer contribution that is 5% of salary
  • Vacation: 3 weeks and statutory holidays, in addition to a 2-week winter closure
  • Personal Days: 15 days
  • Cultural Days: 5 days annually
  • Volunteer Hours: 5 hours monthly at any organization of your choice.
  • Flexible Work Week Options: 4 and 5 Day work week options.
