Your Impact
Reporting to the Policy School Coordinator and Manager, the Policy School Facilitator is responsible for supporting the growth of our Indigenous Policy School program. This role will engage directly with Indigenous Youth across Canada virtually and also twice in person. The Policy School Facilitator will facilitate the delivery and evaluation of one cohort of the Policy School on Tuesday evenings and will have noticeable impact on the next generation of Indigenous Youth through direct communications, program delivery, evaluation support, and other program related engagements.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
Program Facilitation:
- Assist in the delivery and evaluation of policy curriculum
- Facilitate the Policy School in one of the 5 cohort areas
- Coordinate guest speakers and external consultant to support the Policy School
- Support the evaluation of Policy School programming and support in coordinating feedback from relevant stakeholders
- Uphold and promote the organization’s cultural values and guiding principles in all workplace practices.
- Engage with the Indigenous community and support initiatives that strengthen relationships and collaboration
Communication:
- Communicate effectively with IYR staff throughout the duration of the Policy School
- Regularly track and submit your hours through our payroll processing platform for accuracy of compensation and cost of programming
- Support Indigenous youth through online check-ins and project support
- Communicate with program stakeholders both internal and external
- Source, develop, and maintain relationships with community representatives including elders, knowledge keepers, vendors, event hosts, etc.
Youth Leadership:
- Assist in planning logistics for virtual and in-person sessions for staff, volunteer, and youth engaged with the Policy School
- Support youth in the development of policy proposals, advocacy, and negotiation
- Regularly assess and recommend adjustments related to the Policy School program’s procedures and policies to ensure the program stays current and relevant in a rapidly changing environment.
- Lead and support your cohort in achieving program goals, completing assigned tasks, and developing innovative ideas for future engagements.
Community Engagement:
- Uphold and promote the organization’s cultural values and guiding principles in all workplace practices.
- Engage with the Indigenous community and support initiatives that strengthen relationships and collaboration.
Health, Safety, and Wellness:
- All employees are required to carry out their duties in a manner that does not adversely affect their own health and safety and that of others by reporting all potential hazards; and all incidents and injuries; as well as co-operating with any measures introduced in the workplace to improve OH&S.
Other:
- Maintain high ethical standards and demonstrate integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness in all endeavours and communications.
- Support and participate in all IYR staff, department, and team meetings.
- Participate in external and internal committees, working groups, or projects as required.
- Undertake other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 2+ years experience in program facilitation in the youth sector
- Practical knowledge and interest in policy development
- Previous experience working with Indigenous youth communities
- Strong administrative experience, with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
- Proven written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with a high attention to detail.
- Availability to travel within Canada for in-person program events

Compensation
- Salary: $50/hour
- Vacation: 4% of earned wages paid out per pay cycle
