CRE is thrilled to announce that Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) has committed $12.5M in funding over two years to extend CRE’s work on the TRC Call to Action 66 pilot project. We’re honoured to be able to do the important work we’ve been tasked with, and this funding will allow us to continue to work in partnership with Indigenous youth to implement Call to Action 66 and create pathways toward reconciliation through programs, grants, and opportunities that are grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and being.
Since CRE received federal funding for the pilot project in 2019, we’ve been able to increase the scale and scope of our work, while working to ensure that Indigenous youth have a voice in matters important to them. Between April 2019- March 2022, across 23 unique programs, CRE had 1,763 primary participants, 190 volunteers, and 29,003 beneficiaries. Through the CREation community grants program, over $3 million in funding has been mobilized to Indigenous youth-led organizations and grassroots groups, with 220 grants given out to 175 unique grantee groups to run community projects.
And since then, between April 2021- August 2022, CRE has had 1,689 primary participants, facilitated 67,356 digital engagements, and worked with 40 advisory circle members. We’ve hosted 23 (unique) programs, and distributed $3,050,150.00 in grant funding to 152 projects led by 118 unique grantee groups. Over the years our programming has grown, expanded, and shifted based on the leadership, initiative and input of Indigenous youth.
CRE is fortunate to work with Indigenous youth from coast to coast to coast, and this funding will allow us to continue to respond to the needs of Indigenous youth and their communities, and create resources, programming, and opportunities that reflect their many visions for CTA 66
