Indigenous Youth Roots (IYR) is thrilled that Federal Budget 2024 proposes to provide an additional $12.5 million over two years, starting in 2024-25 to Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs to support IYR in partnering with Indigenous youth-led organizations and individuals. This funding will help ensure the continued delivery of programming, grants and opportunities to empower Indigenous youth as part of our ongoing work to implement Call to Action 66 and support youth-led pathways toward reconciliation.

We’re so proud of what we’ve been able to achieve in collaboration with Indigenous youth and communities from coast to coast to coast. To date, we’ve mobilized over $7.3M in funding through our Creation Granting Program to 415 grassroots youth-focused projects across 1192 youth leaders taking place in communities across the country. We’ve been fortunate enough to fund Creation projects in all 13 Provinces/Territories. 1377 Indigenous youth have participated in policy and research programming and initiatives through our Centre for Indigenous Policy and Research. 1,768 Indigenous youth have participated in 19 reoccurring culture and wellness programs with the aim to revitalize Indigenous languages and cultures through various activities such as art, crafts, traditional language programming, and storytelling.

Our work is only possible because of the Indigenous youth, communities and partners we have the privilege of working with, and we look forward to continuing to grow and nurture what we’ve built together. Over the next two years, we’ll continue to support Indigenous youth to lead change that will have an impact for generations to come.

With love and gratitude,

Indigenous Youth Roots
